Preparing apprentice candidates since 1966.
Jack Martin & Associates originated in 1989 as the sales arm for “Pre-Apprentice Training,” a company dedicated to preparing men and women for entry into registered apprenticeship programs.
The first book was written in 1966 and is still in use today. All four books were written at the request of employers who desired to improve the skill levels required for entry into apprenticeship programs.
The books are currently in use in high schools, community colleges, company and union training programs, and are purchased by individuals for self study.

Cherie Martin Smith
I became a partner in Jack Martin and Associates in January of 2022. Dave and I share responsibility for all aspects of the company. My goal is to work with Dave to meet the training needs of students that want to become apprentices.
My background is in both education and engineering. I was the STEM lead teacher at Parkland High School in Texas. I have taught courses in Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design, Mechanical Engineering, Digital Electronics, Robotics, Rocketry and Geometry. I have experience in both online and face to face teaching and curriculum design. Prior to teaching, I held various engineering positions in the automotive industry.

Jack Martin
My career started by working on an automotive assembly line and in the evenings attended a draftsman certification training program. When the program was completed, I was selected to work as a detail draftsman. I left the automotive industry to attend college. After graduating from college, I taught high school and became a high school counselor. I worked for the state of Michigan as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I was then hired by the Industrial Mutual Association where I administered apprenticeship selection tests for Flint area automotive factories. Later, I became vice president of a private business college that consulted with business and industry across the nation.
I recently retired, but still serve Jack Martin & Associates as an advisor.

Dave Namenye
As the President of Jack Martin & Associates Educational Services, I am responsible for all aspects of the company’s operations. Having MA degrees in Curriculum and Administration with an emphasis on instructional design and development, I have spent the past thirty-two years analyzing, developing, implementing, managing and directing various aspects of industrial training and performance improvement. I also have an MA degree in Counseling and Personnel.
While serving as Vice-President, I oversaw the development of two new books that were written at the request of a client for a new program designed as a better approach to the apprentice selection process called the Industrial Readiness Certificate Program (IRCP). The two new books, Basic Shop Math and Basic Blueprint Reading for the Skilled Trades, along with our current titles of Pre-Apprentice Training – A Test Preparation Manual for the Skilled Trades and Math Supplement, are the sole sources of content for this program. At this time, two US OEMs are implementing this program. I also worked with a Tier One auto supplier developing an apprentice selection test.
